On weekends during the summer months | | while living on Maryland’s Eastern Shore, I assisted with commercial crabbing along the Nanticoke River. Involved was sorting crabs, baiting lines, pulling lines, cutting bait and painting the work boat.
Turtling: While living on the Eastern Shore of Maryland, I accompanied a friend |
| | who enjoyed turtling on his spare time. The target species was the snapping turtle, which was sold for breeding purposes on turtle farms or for human consumption.
Wild Turkey Hunting Guide: In the spring of 2004 I took a temporary job in |
| | South Dakota with a private ranch, where I worked as a wild turkey hunting guide (Merriam’s wild turkey spring hunting season), near the Black Hills of South Dakota. I also assisted with general ranch maintenance activities that involved caring for the animal residents (sled dogs, ranch elk, bison and longhorn cattle herds), and handy tasks throughout the property (digging fence post holes, cement work, and hunting cabin maintenance). I ventured to Nebraska for the summer months before returning home to Connecticut for seasonal state and tribal employment opportunities.
Montana Buffalo Roundup Staff: During the fall of 2003 I assisted with a |
| | buffalo roundup in the Bighorn Mountains of Montana and performed aerial head counts of bison in mountainous terrain via helicopter. I also operated the entrance gate to the buffalo corral, cared for bison in corrals, and ear tagged bison receiving a brucellosis vaccine before being released back out on the mountain.
Cattle Roundup & Branding Staff: While working for the Cheyenne River |
| | Sioux Tribe I assisted with local cattle roundups and brandings.
Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation Auction & Banquet Staff: I assisted the |
| | Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation CT River Chapter with their annual auction and banquets while working for the Connecticut Department of Environmental Protection.
Office Assistant/Christmas Tree Staff: While growing up in Connecticut I often assisted a local forestry company during the holiday seasons with Christmas tree sales and wreath making activities. I also assisted with office-related tasks and website design while in-between seasonal wildlife field positions. In 2005 I partook in the First Annual Holiday Workshop between the forestry company and the CT Forest & Parks Association.
